Driverless car technology has been progressing in leaps and bounds in previous years, however, a unique problem has emerged in Australia when developing the software in that kangaroos, with their hopping movements, are throwing out the driverless cars’ animal detection software. Unlike a four-legged animal like a cow or a dog which is easier for the detection software to read, the randomness of a kangaroo’s hop is proving to be too difficult to manage for the current generation of driverless car software. Steve and Ben discuss this unique problem in the development of working driverless cars, and how this and other problems still need to be resolved before the technology can go mainstream.
